Some thoughts on the upcoming French elections

On Sunday 22 April France will hold the first round of its presidential elections. Voters will choose from among ten candidates, with the top two candidates competing in a run-off vote on 6 May. Since the outcome can be full of surprises, it is worth becoming acquainted with what is now on offer.

French diplomacy has been marred by missteps and controversies over the past few weeks. In most democratic countries, such scandals would probably have forced the Foreign Minister out. Not in Sarkoland however.

Nuclear energy on a silver plate for Iran’s neighbours

Western debate on the Iran issue has always focused on the military side of the coin – and certainly for a reason. It is, however, particularly striking to observe the ease at which nuclear developments Iran’s neighbourhood have been watched. In fact the West, the US and France in the forefront, are anxious to offer nuclear to Iran’s neighbours in the Middle East.
