Completing the Economic and Monetary Union

The EMU is widely seen as an unfinished business. In 2015, the uncertainty over the future of Greece in the euro area highlighted the need to continue envisaged reforms. On the other hand, the UK referendum on the country’s EU membership has arguably lowered the member states political ambition to make far-reaching changes to the EMU. New reforms are seen to require a treaty change, and might lead to referendums. How solid is the current EMU? What are the key development needs, and available options to strengthen it? How will Brexit shape the ongoing discussion on the future of the EMU?
