Samu Paukkunen is the deputy director of the Finnish institute of international affairs. His area of expertise and research interests include the Arctic and the affects of geopolitical changes in the Arctic region, great power politics and foreign and security policy.

Mr. Paukkunen has comprehensive experience in working for the Finnish state organizations. He acted as an Advisor in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, Senior analyst in strategic security analysis for the Finnish Defence Forces, Foreign and security policy expert for the Office of the President of the Republic of Finland and for the Finnish Parliament as the Secretary general in the International Parliament Cooperation organisation and as Counsellor for international affairs.
