kutsutilaisuus

Since the end of the Cold War, Finnish expertise in certain areas of strategic affairs (for example, the role of nuclear weapons and missile defence in Western deterrence strategy) has eroded as other international concerns, such as non-proliferation, international terrorism, and regional conflicts, have preoccupied security policymakers and analysts. A similar development has taken place in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Given heightened tensions between the West and Russia since the 2014 invasion of Ukraine, as well as the risks of nuclear-related crises in places like the Korean peninsula, FIIA with support from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and in cooperation with counterpart think tanks and organizations in Sweden, Norway, and Denmark, seeks to build a “Next Generation Initiative.” The Initiative aims to increase and sustain the capacity of the next generation of strategic thinkers and government advisors in the four participating countries to understand and deal with the new strategic landscape.
