The FIIA has launched a new publication series called the FIIA Comment. The series will consist of concise analysis of topical issues in international relations and EU affairs. The series starts with researcher Timo Behr’s assessment of the state of the Union for the Mediterranean.

Dr. Behr writes that the cancellation of the biannual Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) summit leaves EU policies in its southern neighbourhood in disarray. To prevent the further disintegration of its regional policy, the EU needs to act now rather than wait for the outcome of indirect Israeli-Palestinian peace talks, which stand little chance of being a success.

The first FIIA Comment can be viewed and downloaded on the institute’s website at http://www.upi-fiia.fi/en/publication/120/. Contact and background information for Dr. Behr are also available on the site at http://www.upi-fiia.fi/en/expert/73/.
